Question Do you TRUST your local chevy dealer!

Just wondering how have been treated by your local dealer. Where they honest/dishonest, fair/greedy, enlightened/ignorant?

Tell me your opinion should we go the dealer or not

Re: Do you TRUST your local chevy dealer!

No one dealer is the same. All I know is there's only one person I would trust over myself to work on my truck AND not charge me an arm and a leg for it.

I would say all of the above. and agree with Cailen, Every Dealer is different, But they all have one thing in common. There prices are just way too high for parts & labor. I'll continue doing my own work on my cars rather then taking it in to the dealer.

Re: Do you TRUST your local chevy dealer!

Indeed... dealer prices are ridiculous. If you need to have work done at the shop at least take it to a mechanic who will allow you to supply the parts.

Re: Do you TRUST your local chevy dealer!

I'm pretty fortunate... My dealer parts guy gives me parts at cost (slightly below what typical gmpartsdirect.com stuff costs) As to their service, they're usually pretty fair.

I like Rilth, have a parts guy at a local dealership that gives me parts at emplyee price, or cost, so I am very fortunate with that, I also like using GM parts whenever I possibly can. As for the auto sales part of this same dealership, I will never buy a vehicle from there, the prices are over inflated, and many of the salesmen are ignorant, to say the least. I almost bought a '04 blazer from this same dealership, but was totally turned off - we couldn't put a deal together, they were simply unwilling to do anything, I was disgusted, decied to keep my '95 and drive it a little longer.

All GM dealers are independant franchises.
The quality of service you recieve depends on the quality of people who are working there.
GM dealers with PROPERLY trained technicians are equipped with the necessary tools, equipment, training and experiance to properly diagnose and repair your GM vehicle the first time.
Look for dealers who display the GM Certifications of their Technicians.
Look for a dealer who has GM Master Technicians or GM World Class Technicians and request that these technicians be the only ones who diagnose and repair your vehicle.

It took three times to diagnose a bad EPC sensor in my mothers '93 STS, she drove back then, the third time it was there, it stayed there for 23 days until they figured it out. Twice, and both at different dealerships, techs have left tools under the hood, and once my grandfather had a pair of vise grips locked on his emergency brake line under his car. They sure did display thier certifacations(and charged the same way too).

My point is at all does depends on the mechanic/technician. I have found more knowledgable people at private shops, who are equally skillfull at diagnosing many problems, be it GM or any other make. It all depends on the quality and skill of that individual who is working on your vehicle.

Re: Do you TRUST your local chevy dealer!

Yeah, people can bitch about price all they want.. sure prices can be above outrageous, but most mechanics charge a lot to begin with anyway.

When I said there's one person I'll trust over myself to work on my truck, price was secondary. The bottom line is I know the quality of the guy's workmanship is high, so he's allowed to put his hands on my baby. I only need him on the really difficult jobs anyway, where utmost quality is a must.

Mostly, I just have a few friends that are apprenticing mechanics and all they do is tell me the stories of how they used a cutting torch for a job that needed a wrench, had to do this and that three times and finally had to JB weld something on, or offered to change someone's "xenon fluid".

Does it make me a bad person that I laugh at their stories?

Re: Do you TRUST your local chevy dealer!

Last two service departments I've had dealings with, someone should be in jail. Only thing I can figure is that GM is withholding or undercutting warranty payouts to the point that the dealers won't actually fix problems if they can patch it up till the warranty is out, then it's your nickel and you'd better have a home equity loan to tap. Probably bought our last new Chevy over this. Doubt they'll miss me though.

NO it makes them bad people for pulling stunts like that and giving Professional Technicians a bad rap.
