2001 tahoe is stuck on 4wd hi and service 4wd light is on
I Have A 01 Tahoe. The Service 4wd Light Has Been On For A While. About A Month Ago I Swiched It From 2wd To 4wd And NoW It Wont Go Back To 2wd. When I Hit The 2wd Button The Light Blinks And It Goes Back To 4wd. I Had A Local Mechanic
Look At It And He Said The Tranfer Case Was Fine And That The Problem Seem To Be In The Encoder But When He Tried To Put The New One In He Said That It Was Lossing Voltage And He Did Not Know Why. Since He Could NOT Fix It He Told Me To Take It To A Chevy Dealer So They Can Run More Diagnostic Test. Anybody Have Any Idea What Could Be The Problem. I Will Appreciate Any Help I Can Get. Thanks

Really need to get a DTC(diagnostic trouble code). The dash light is turned on by the Transfer Case Control Module which is sensing a problem in the 4wd system. The DTC will point to the problem and we can help from there. If you're driving in 4HI on dry roads you're really doing harm to your drive train.

I had this problem not to long ago with my'01. Everytime I would engage 4wd auto or any of ther other buttons it would "undo" whatever button i pushed. Turns out it was the 4wd switch. Part was about $32 labor was $50. By reading the forums here. It seems that is a frequent problem with the ' 01
