Hellllp plz :((

hi i dont even know if i am in the right place but let me explaine my issue and i sure u nice ppl will send to wherever i need to go..

i have a 91 grand prix 3.1 6 cyl..

one day it decided not to start. ok.. so found out no spark, i replaced the coil packs all 3, put everything back together and still o spark.. ok so i go and replace the module as well. ok.. so now i am feeling optimistic.. NOPE still wont start. now of course my battery has taken a beating but it doesnt take long to charge when getting jumped but i turn key and it makes all the noises of starting without starting!

now i have had so many ppl say so many differnt things. 1 said somthing aobut cranks sensor.. sends the charge to everything. ok i can deal with that where is it how hard to replace and approx how much..

1 said computer under my passenger seat. but no much more than that..

1 said my fuel pump simed to linger running when trying to start. meaning stayed on longer or something..(told me change filter) i do know there is gas getting to teh engine tested that..

i also checked to make sure my firing sequence was correct and it is. and all wires are in good condition.

soo in my long essay and alot of headache i am lost and i really need something i HAVE to have my car my husband is working 2 jobs and never home and so the car has been left to my responsabbility for now.

so any ideas right now would be so helpful its very cold here and walking to xmas shop with 2 year old not fun

Re: Hellllp plz :((

Welcome to AF! Based on what you have stated the issue is in the ignition system not the fuel system. The ignition system consists of the following, the ECM (engine control module) located behind the glove box not under the seat, the ignition module, coils, cam position sensor and crank position sensor. If you are getting fuel and you have already replaced the ignition module and coils the next thing I would try is the crank position sensor. This sensor is located in the rear of the block near the transmission. Once replaced if the ecm is still good then the car should start. The only other item is the cam position sensor but I would have to believe that the issue is with the crank position sensor.

Re: Hellllp plz :((

I agree with GTP dad that the crank sensor is the next thing to replace. Before doing so, "tap test" the ECM. I believe the ECM is actually mounted under the hood, beneath the coolant overflow bottle, but I could be mistaken. If the service number on your ECM is 1227727, there's a good chance that it's the problem, as that service number has a higher failure rate than most. If you tap the ECM with a screwdriver handle and the car starts, then the circuit board is bad and the ECM needs to be replaced (continued tapping should make the car die again). If it doesn't start, replace the crank sensor first (it's only a $15 part). If replacing the crank sensor doesn't work, then replace the ECM, as the "tap test" isn't 100% accurate, and the ECM is WAY more expensive than a crank sensor.
