96 trans stuck in second gear
when comeing to stop it die on me when it started up it wouldnt shift
two days later went back to normal its done it again wont shift and when i put it in drive it dies. took it to shop they checked for codes on the trans none came up. any ideas on what is wrong and how i might fix it |

Your tranmission speed sensor is bad. Replace it and it will be good as gold again.

you could also have a bad solenoid pack, very common thing to fail on these transmissions. bc42875 is also correct, but usually if the output speed sensor fails, your speedometer won't work, you haven't mentioned that, so I don't believe it's a problem. If the input speed sensor fails, it'll just stay in second gear, though your speedo will work. I'd recommend going to a shop that can manually test the solenoid pack w/ a scanner to see if that's indeed the problem, preferrably a Dodge dealer since they have the Chrysler DRB III scanner that can test each solenoid with the acutuator test. If you say it stalls, then more than likely it is the solenoid pack, but always check to be sure before you speed hundered of dollars fixing the problem.
