I just wanted a new tread so those who want to discuss this topic. Although there is no positive identification of the winner, we all like to guess an put in our 2 cents.

EVO would kill a WRX

Evo would poop all over a wrx, now an wrx sti is a different story. It all depends on what sti and evo you compare. my favorite sti is sti6 type RA it actually is faster than an evo VI but has a top speed of only 114mph! The evo series is more harsh as compared to the sti (closer to the rally cars) but the 22b is a real rally car, only the evo rs's are as close to the 22b. If you do a general comparo I'd say evo 1-3 are not as good as the sti 1-3, but evo 4-6.5 wins hands down. the evo VII and new sti is still too close to tell.

The EVO VII simply does rule over the WRX/WRX STi.

Many magazine prefer the EVO, many Owners Prefer the EVO, everyone prefers the EVO.

I'd have to agree, The Evolution Series seems to be the go...I don't know abouth the Sti's Ive seen a lot of EVO 1 - 3 smoke them even with mild mods...? Nothing gets off the line like a Mitsi

STi vs. EVO

To let you know, the Evo VII cannot compete with the WRX, it competes with the STi. WRX and WRX STi are two different cars. And for a fact, the STi outperforms an Evo VII. In both handling and performance. I would prefer having the Evo over the STi because it has better looks all around, but under the hood and throughout, the STi is slightly better than the EVO.

Well on the Speed Channel this guy took out the Evo VII and an STi. He did such and such with both but in the end he said that the STi felt more comfortable than the Evo and that it had more traction and performance. Now in my mind, I would think the Evo would do better. In the August 2002 edition of MotorTrend, the 0-60 time for the Evo VII is 4.7 seconds. That is damn fast. I can't find the STi 0-60 but it must be close because the WRX can do 5.4 seconds and the STi has about 40 more horsepower than the WRX. But in the end, it's all based on the compression ratio of each car and the gearing. I want to get the Evo when it comes here to the US, no doubt about it.

The Impreza WRX and the Lancer Evolution VII aren't on the same playing field and were not intended to compete against each other. The WRX STi model is more of a comparable solution to the EVO. SCC even did a test a month or two ago of the EVO versus their base-model WRX project car which had a Vishnu Stage Zero turbo upgrade (unichip+uppipe) and a turbo back exhaust. Not only did the WRX put down a better 0-60 and comparable quarter mile times with less than $2000 worth of upgrades, it was more fun to drive because it the EVO is tuned more as a track car than a rally car and can't slide through turns a well as the WRX (which can be either a good thing or a bad thing depending on your driving style).
Regardless both the STi and the EVO's specs vary depending on what market they are sold to. ie, the Jap spec versions of both these cars are "rated" at an identical 276 hp which is the power cap for Japan. The European spec versions are less powerful 260 and 255 horsepower respectively, so yes a Japan-spec EVO would be faster than a European STi but thats comparing apples and oranges. They're both excellent cars, run basically the same numbers and in stock trim can kick the shit out of a wide assortment of cars.

The EVO7 will marginally outperform a WRX STi. I think the STi is a better daily driver though, with its interior.

I remember 2 months ago some girl said the WRX (not the STi mind you) was superior to the Evo VII.... After screaming out how she was an ignorant bitch in my chemistry class, I think she figured out my stance on the issue.

The next best car series to the Skyline IMHO

Man, you can make a powerful arguement when you take stuff out of context and leave out the rest. Are you in marketing? It's true that they recorded that their project WRX had a quicker 0-60, but you left out the rest of it, namely that it runs a faster quarter and handles better for what most people want their cars to do, which is on the street or at the track. SCC Magazine, while praising their own Project WRX car, said "In the end, it's the Lancer's uncompromised speed in nearly every situation that wins us over. It won almost every instrumented test and was considerably faster around the road course."

I'm not sure where you get the "can't slide through turns a well as the WRX" from that article. They never said it wasn't capable of sliding, they simply were commenting on the precision of its steering control made them say (about getting sideways) "It just isn't necessary."

It's not exactly fair to say "better 0-60 and comparable quarter mile times" when the difference is the same amount between 'better' and 'comprable'. I'm not arguing that the value of the modded WRX is probably better than the EVO VII, but if you're going to throw numbers around, don't just show the ones that are convenient, cuz you look like a butt when somebody calls you on it.

Lap Times
Project WRX: 59.98 sec.
Lancer EVO VII: 57.44

Dodging Cones:
Project WRX: 69.9 MPH
Lancer EVO VII: 72.6 MPH

60-to-0 Braking
Project WRX: 109 ft.
Lancer EVO VII: 107 ft.

Going Straight (1/4 mile)
Project WRX: 13.5 sec. @ 99.3 MPH (5.1 sec. 0-60)
Lancer EVO VII: 13.4 sec. @ 103 MPH (5.1 sec. 0-60)

The Bottom Line (as SCC sees it)
Project WRX: Second Place
Lancer EVO VII: First Place

13.4 vs 13.5 are COMPARABLE TIMES ya moron. I didn't leave out anything.. the point is with only an uppipe, unichip, and pulleys and stickier tires (falken azenis) which is not a huge deal of mods on an otherwise STOCK WRX it was able to compete with a car that was in an entirely different class than the regular (non-STi) WRX is in. In my book that would make the WRX the winner of that test even with a 20 hp defecit and stock suspension. "...we're calling this test a wash. It comes down to which car you like better. The EVO is ultimately quicker but the WRX is a hell of a lot more fun."

If you get all your knowledge of cars from magazines then we're gonna have a problem here.:finger4:
