Question about S15 Silvia Motor

I was doing some research because I am planning on getting a S-14 style 240sx sometime in the not so distant future. Upon doing some research I have decided that I will probably go with the S15 Silvia SR20DET.

http://www.enginelandinc.com/show.as...categorykey=81.

I was wondering much horsepower would I be able to run on the stock internals with this particular motor. Any help would be appricated.

Re: Question about an engine swap

You should be able to run around 400hp to the fly depending on mileage and condition of the motor...after that stock internals will not be happy

Re: Question about an engine swap

It's true that the SR 6speed tranny is weaker then the 5speed, but they still hold 400whp in D1 cars and they are beaten to fucking death, unless your making a dyno queen, the tranny will hold fine. You can make 350whp on stock internals, but always make sure there is enough fuel. Also you need the rear end with that engine cause the speed sensor is in the differential.

Re: Question about an engine swap

It comes with the 6 speed tranny already. I will eventually make it a dyno queen. Want something more for the track that the street because I will still have my eclipse to be a daily driver. But it will be a while before i'll have it at that stage. Another question though. If I end up getting a 240 that is a auto (seems like they are usually the cheaper ones) as long as I have the manual tranny would it be hard to convert it to a stick.

Re: Question about an engine swap

i would go more towards the S13 or S14, why have you chose the S15 SR? You can save money by buying an S13 or S14 SR and use that money for mods and still have the same power. The S14 SR is about 220hp?, and the S15 SR is 250hp, not a great difference, and you'll pay alot more and the swap is harder...

I would say go with a black top s13...lower miles. strong internals, 5 speed tranny holds more whp. dont need to swap rear end. and it also doesnt have vvt, which makes tuning the thing a bitch...so all in all you would save aprox $2,000 on the motor alone, that could be used for a bigger turbo, and internal work. good luck

Re: Question about an engine swap

VTC only complicates tuning if your going for really high hp, he's not doing that now so it doesn't matter, same with tranny. And I know it comes with the 6speed, buddy, Im saying you have to swap the rear end (driveshaft, differential, half shafts, i think), there is a rear end on these cars, not like your Eclipse. :-P btw, the stock S15 driveshaft fits.

Re: Question about an engine swap

well he orignally said that the car will be a dyno queen...thus in the future he will have problems with tuning...just saving him the frustration he will have later.

Re: Question about an engine swap

if he actually wants a dyno queen then i have lost all respect for him and refuse to answer any other questions that he has, unless it's to explain to him how gay dyno queens are.

Re: Question about an engine swap

Maybe he just wants to set a record for highest HP 240...but yeah, im not a fan of dyno queens either.."ive got 800hp, and fool boost at 7000rpm" (not literally, but you get what im saying, boring)
