ok, i have a 1999 chevy cavalier z24. It has about 112,000 miles. Normally not any problems with her. She is a good little car. But on Sunday night as I was driving, the battery light came on. The first thing I did was call my husband because I don't know much about cars. He said to just chill and call my mom (in case the car died). So I made it to Kragens, but on the way when I turned a corner, the light would go off and then come right back on. Than the ABS light came on. I was freaking out. I pulled into Kragens and at the driveway and I notice that the headlights were dimming along with the interior lights. I made it to Kragens (right before they closed). They came out, checked the battery with a meter. It said that the battery was low. I turned on the headlights, they worked fine. I tried to start the car, and nothing, no click just dead. So the car sat overnight until it was towed the next morning. The tow truck driver tried to jumpstart the car, and nothing. But all of my interior lights were working. So he towed the car down the street to the shop. They hooked it up for diagnosis because of the light. It came back that they battery was dead. So they put in a new battery. I asked them about the connection (they were fine). The alternator was also fine and I just had the ignition switch replaced last month. I took the car about 2 miles and the dang light came back on. So I went back to the shop, turned the car off and it wouldnt start all over again. They were saying that it might be something with the computer in the car.
This morning I talked to my teacher who had the same thing with his car after replacing a battery. He had to physically take the battery out of the car, put in the key, turn the key and then put the battery back in the car. The car ran fine after that with no problems. Yesterday when they had the car again, the theft system light was coming on. They got the car to start one time after they did an entire sequence of things. What do you think it is???? I dont want to put a lot of $$ into the car because I need to trade it in anyways for a bigger car (i have a 2 yr old and one more coming in May) PLEASE HELP! |

Re: uh oh again
I agree, it probably is the computer. If you are selling the car, one from an auto wrecker will most likely work for your situation. One thing though, try to find one out of a Cavalier that had just recently been in an accident because I wouldn't trust one that's been exposed to moisture for a while. At autowreckers often you'll find vehicle stripped down with no doors excetera. Good luck!
