short shifter

I put my new short shifter an weighted Greddy knob on today. Performs immaculatly, i never knew a short shifter could perform that well. My buddy had one on his integra and it was taller than stock but mine shifts even shorter than that. Just thought i'd let everybody know the news. Next up all suspension.

Re: short shifter

Your friend's short shiter was taller then stock? I think the point of a short shiter is to be, well, short.

Re: short shifter

Actually what makes a short shifter a short shifter is where the pivot point is at. Most short shifters use a taller Point of Pivot allowing less travel on your end of the lever. Thus making shifting travel "shorter".

Re: short shifter

Exactly, the part that's above the console is shorter, if it's taller then stock, how could the throws be shorter?

Re: short shifter

Moving the pivot point can make a huge difference allowing the actual shifter to be taller and still have shorter throws. If you watch the phatka-t vids(when Ivan was there), his B&M looks tall as shit as well.

Re: short shifter

The taller the shifter, the farther the top part moves.

Re: short shifter

Yes, but moving the pivot point up will compensate for the extra hight easily.
Example: Hold a pencil on the very bottom, move the top. The bottom will barely move. Now if you hold the pencil almost on the very top and move the top a little bit, the bottom will move a long distance.
Just by moving the pivot point, you can shorten the throw. If a short shifter was only short, people would just like cut it and rethread it lol (so ghetto).

Re: short shifter

Yes, but you can't have the pivot point anywhere, it has to be below the console and the length of the shifter starts at the console.

Re: short shifter

ya, but you can move it about 1/2 of an inch, which makes a huge difference. when i put mine in, i compared sticks, adn they are exactly the same length, but the pivot ball is 1/2" higher on the short shifter.

i personally could care less if the shifter handle is higher, as long as the shifts are easier and quicker, thats the point.

Re: short shifter

both are true, most expensive shifters move the pivot point, cheap ones have a shorter shaft. my car came with some bullshit tall ass APC shiftknob and i bought the Greddy weighted ball which was about 2.5 inches shorter and it made the throws quite a bit shorter. moving the pivot point has a much bigger effect though.
