Paint Problems

Well its winter again and I can't work on my 1:1 so I work on my models. I pulled them out from under my bed and began to look at my skyline I worked on over the summer. I didn't notice till now, but the paint is coming off the engine. Why oh why? I used testors enamel could that be the problem?

Did you clean the part before you painted it? When using metalizers that is a very important step, it may be because of grease your paint is coming off. Some metalizers rub off very easy too...

Re: Paint Problems

Looks like the paint hasn't bonded to the plastic. Could be mold release agent or other contamination on the surface. Good preparation is the answer. To avoid in future clean off the greases/dirt prior to painting, scuff the surface with fine sandpaper to give the paint something to bite into and use primer.

Re: Paint Problems

I was thinking about using primer next time, that must be the secret to getting the paint to stick, lol.

I did also think about the grease I my hands could have caused it during the test fit. I'll be sure and clean and primer the parts next time.

thanks guys
