Real Performance from a V6 Vortec!!

First of all, this is one of the most informative sites I have ever came across! Why mess with a good thing? Let's face it the V6 vortec is a great engine, It is a big V6 with nice baseline torque, Just begging to be capitalized on. One of the easiest things to do for an imediate gain is to remove the baffle on the throttle plate (30mnts). This was for people as GM said, did not like the initial take off when the pedal was pushed so it restricted the air flow. Next get a less restrictive air filter, be it cold air intake or just a new type of filter, next propper gap of your sparkplugs and of corse a new cap and roter, take a look at the inside of your old cap and tell me what you see on the pegs! Next make sure that your oxygen sensor's are in good working order Next make sure that your cat is free and flowing nicely. GET A CATBACK EXHAUST SYSTEM, it will make a world of difference!! I don't care whose you buy. GET ONE!! Leave the headders for now, they are not that bad. Now it's time for the hypertech programmer, trust me you will love this, just get it for as cheap as you can find. Now if you want more, change out the rockers, this is really easy, vortecs have shoulder studs that have zero adjustment. Try the 1.6 roller tips. Now for forced induction (SUPERCHARGER) Do your research!!! I have a Vortech Which I love, but you might like something else. Now, change the Headers this is where you will get there benefits of a better flow. Still not satisfied!! (Camshaft) again this will take research, there are to many variables to consider! Still not satisfied !! Pistons! Forged!! NO Other!! And for a little more get your throttle body flowed and ported It gives you a little more. I have done a lot more than I have listed. But It gives you an idea of the proccess I'm not going to give you all my secrets since I don't want you to pull up next to me, and Heaven forbid SMOKE ME!!

Well you sure know how to screw up a good running machine.
Half of that stuff does not do squat.
If you want a racing machine go ahead and build one but keep it on the race track where they belong.
I WOULD PEFER SOMETHING THAT HAS MORE UP TO START WITH.

hahaha....whatever

I'm happy with the way my Blazer is. It's not a race car...It's an SUV

If I wanted a race car, I would have kept my Firebird.

Come on guys. He/she is just being helpful. Plenty of the blazer forum regulars have asked these questions. Do not crap a thread because you do not like the idea.

Some useful info there if that is what you are going for.

You are right. Sorry Blazer SS. Do you have any pictures of your work so some of us could see it?

Re: Re: Re: Real Performance from a V6 Vortec!!

I herd about taking off that extra peice on the thorttle body blade. Does it make the much of a differnce, when i was doig my throttle body spacer, it did like it was restricking some airflow. If its worth the time to do it, how do u do it?

His advice sems sound to me.

You do have to admit he has some zest for his trust which is a refreshment from hearing people complain about there so much.

To be honest. Now that I'm thinking about it, I'm curious about the throttle body blade. When I did my intake I did noticea restriction. Is that a safe mod to do?

Re: Real Performance from a V6 Vortec!!

My mods sure helped my 89 4.3 with thottle body injection no more . But a properly tuned carb can make enormous power gains . edelbrock has a great package for the older 4.3 . Rob

Re: Real Performance from a V6 Vortec!!

Sorry about not being clear on what I was suggesting. The reason that I put this in is for people who want more power out of their V6. I started at the no cost options and worked my way up to the more expensive mods. I have changed my whole suspension system to accomodate the new power that I have obtained out of my truck , along with a braking system to bring it to a stop. People do things that they like. And I like to get all the power I can get out of a stock vehicle. And in this case it was a Blazer. Nothing beats the look on someones face after they have been beaten by a, believe it or not , a Blazer with a V6! I love my Blazer and I love what I have done to It. Why do you think that they put out concept cars? To inspire. Why not do it with a Blazer?

Go for it. What ever melts your butter.

How about some pictures of your mods? I'm a visual person.

BlazerSS
Welcome to the forum.
Sorry about be a little harsh on you on the preformance stuff.
Go ahead and post your ideas.
But remember a lot of that stuff like the cold air stuff and add on filters and cat back stuff can do more harm than good in the long run.
Chose the stuff with care and do not believe everything you hear about all performance stuff.
Some good and some not so good.
Remember horses are made in the cylinder walls.
Not pipes going in and out.

Come again?......

Since when does a better flowing exhaust and intake harm any engine over time?.......

Re: Real Performance from a V6 Vortec!!

Newer engines and computer systems are designed to sense the back pressure. If no back pressure is sensed
The computer system thinks something is wrong.
Take Ford dpfe sensers. They operate off of the engine back pressure. No back pressure and pcm does not set fuel mix right.
It is bad for a engines health to mess with the back pressure.
Also contary to lot of thinking some engines develope more HP with a little or the right amount of back pressure.
