Glove Box Stuck, Seats Jacked Up - 94 540i
My glove box is stuck, it wont open, you just pull the handle and nothing happens, I tried taking the glove box off completely but its still stuck at the handle (no its not locked)
My seats also jacked up, when you recline, you recline at an angle... anyone have any suggestions about either of my problems? |

Did you figure out your glove box issue. I am having the same problem with my 1994 530i... Any advice you gathered is appreciated.

You might have to wrestle with, and maybe even break the glove box latch. There's a good repair for the seat cables. What you need to do is shorten the outer casing of the drive cables. First, remove the seat bolts so you can tilt the whole seat backwards, so you have access to the drive motors and cables. The motors are under the front of the seat. Next, using the switch to move the back of the seat to determine which motor drives the seat back. The left drive cable plugs into the left side of motor, the right cable, the right side. There are brackets that have to be removed to remove cables. When you have the cables out, you'll notice that the inner cable is either flush, or below the metal cup on the outer casing. The inner cable needs to stick out at least a 1/4 of an inch. Now, take a razor blade and cut in a circle around the outer casing. Slide the casing off and trim enough outer casing off to make the inner cable stick out a 1/4 inch. Then use a piece of fuel or vaccum line about an inch long, that is large enough to snugly fit over outer casing. re-assemble the outer casing, adjust as needed to give the 1/4 inch of extra inner cable.

Now you need to straighten the seat back. Use an electric or air drill to grip and drive the inner cables. You should sit in the seat for this. Move one side or the other until you're satisfied that the seat back is straight. Insert drive cables back into drive motor and re-assemble. You should be all set.
