Angry rusted fuel tank (from the inside) not covered under extended warranty

hi

i finally got to the root of the misfiring problem of my '00 accord.
the fuel tank is rusted and fuel pump went with it.

even though honda plus (extended warranty in canada)
listed fuel tank and fuel pump as covered,
they won't cover the r&r for these due to the word "rust" as anything related to "rust" is not covered as written in their service provisions.

the rust however came from the inside of the tank, not from the road salts which could rust the exterior of the tank. the cause is probably due to the wet west coast weather where the car had sat for a year. i am just wondering because honda sells the car in the super wet west coast yet the fuel tank is not designed to handle the weather. shouldn't this part be considered a defect in this case?

and another question comes to mind is under what kind of condition would a fuel tank be covered under warranty? it is "covered" yet i am not sure what kind of breakdown honda is expecting from a fuel tank.

anyone has experience with this? any suggestions / feedbacks would be appreciated.
