Code 1345 after new engine
Hello Automotiveform commmunity, this is my first post and have used your site for several of my questions and have gotten excilent advise but now im stumped. I recent installed a 5.7 in a 1996 K2500 4x4. The engine is a new crate motor replacment from GM and it came complete with all covers and balancer. The truck has port fuel injection, not throttle body. Everything went great with the install and when I finished it fired up on the first try. But the problem I am having is that it came up with a 1345 code immediatly. I have worked as a mechanic for over 20 years and have run across this before, where I may have put the ditributor in about a tooth off. So I proceded to remove the ditributo and try either forward or back a tooth. Back a tooth made the engine very hard to start and forward made it start easier but have a small hesitation at cruising speed. If I put it back where it was originally it runs good but still a code. And this is after I cleared it everytime.
My question is actually a few to get me in track. One, is it possible that GM forgot to install the toner ring or what ever is supposed to be inside of the timing cover for the crank sensor and does anyone have any voltage values for the crank sensor so I can do a test on it and which color of wires do I test? Two, how can I test the cam sensor? What color wires at the distributor do I test and what are the readings that I should get? The owner is being extremely patient and is allowing me the time to figure it out. He understands this cause I am a college student now going for the Criminal Justice field. Enough of working on cars stuff,LOL. Please help, Thank you |

If you have the dist. marked maybe try turning it in either direction to see if it goes away. If that doesn't work Maybe the dist. gear. Just trying to give you some options Other than buying a scantool to set the timing.

I also forgot to mention, I have a Snap on scanner. Model no. MT2500
I will try that idea though Rich, thanks. Any other suggestions. |

Would love to get a real scantool...
I have the ODB II Explorer from carcode. It works pretty good but I am having trouble with enhanced realtime data, and staying connected to my truck(only). Go figure... maybe this tread can help? Timing tread |

I can send you the dianosgtic chart (step by step) for the P01345 code.it's most likely a tooth off. these distributors will adapt and learn to run with dist installed wrong.the ECM will ajust to it, the light (SES) will remain on, untill correct alignment is done. Then you have to pass two driving cycles to re-learn then the SES light will go off.Cam sensor is a rare sensor to bad. the Crank shaft sensor is known to go bad but the P01345 is not the code that would be triggered. If there was multiple codes the P01345 could also be triggerd , but not if it's the only code found.

Just to let everyone know, its fixed. I had run into this before and thought it might be a tooth off and I tryed it. Went positive a tooth and it got a little better when it ran but light still on. Went negative a tooth and wouldnt start, so thats what thru me. So I followed some advice from a member and looked at the degree ratio for the distributor and sure enough, it was running at 7 degrees off. I turned the distributor while it was running and set it right at 0 and the idle settled down and light never came back on after I reset it. Thanks for the help.
I guess the thing to remember is, sometimes you have to step back and K.I.S.S. a job (Keep It Stupid Simple) and you can figure it out,LOL. |
