Re: Wheel Bearings

front or rear wheel bearings?

if its the rear, its pretty simple. just jack it up (of course), remove the tire, remove the rotor. then you'll need to remove the axle nut holding the bearing in. i believe its a 36mm nut, but double check on that.

for a front wheel bearing, i think its pretty much the same procedure. there might be one other thing you have to remove, though. can't recall.

EDIT: oh, and obviously, to remove the rotor, you need to remove the brake calipers and all.

Re: Wheel Bearings

I know mitsubishi dosent just sell the bearings, you have to buy the HUB assemly, and that's even easier since you just take out the whole thing. Their is 4 bolts i think that hold it and you just take those of and switch me out. Those bolts can be a big bitch do!! you will deft. need a air gun with this!!

Over here it was cheaper to get it at mitsubishi rather than orielly's. I was in hurry so i got it from dealer but u can always save some $ and order from either www.mitsupartdirect.com or www.ipsmotorsports.net (i think ips gives 26% off on all mitsu parts).

good luck

Re: Wheel Bearings

mahdi is right. the bearing comes in the hub assembly, which IS easier to install b/c you don't have to press the bearings in. but the nut shouldn't be that hard to remove. you can get it with a breaker bar or just regular socket wrench. the only problem is the size of the nut. as i said, i think its a 36mm nut. that's not a common size, but i think autozone carries a 36mm axle nut socket. its just about 10 bucks for that socket.

installation is a piece of cake.

I think it was $98 from mitsu but i am sure u can get it for cheaper from www.mitsubpartdirect.com. I got it for both sides, only one side was bad but when side goes the other side goes right after that. SO might as well do it while you have the car up.

Re: Wheel Bearings

i got one (right rear) for $40 at a salvage yard. (Chaparral Auto Parts--Frisco, TX).

you can most likely find one in great condition at a salvage yard. search www.car-part.com. its a database of salvage yards across the U.S. you can search by specific parts. great resource!
