Unhappy Windshield Wiper Linkage

Has anyone ever needed to get to the wiper linkage on thier trucks.

Had some snow, cleared the snow, turned on the wipers. Driver side moved, the passenger side just moved slightly.

The motors seems ok. The driver side wiper arm seems to work, but not the passenger sidem - moves very slightly.

Seems like the linkage is out of sync or just broke.

Is this an easy fix or a royal pain in the A$$!

Thanks for any help.

Re: Windshield Wiper Linkage

For anyone who is interested, I fixed my wipers.

The nuts that hold the arms to the shafts simply came loose. The socket on the arms is a cone shape if the nut is not tight, it will slip.

But I did take the cowel off, cleaned and used some Mother's Back to Black on the cowel and cleaned out all the leaves and crap.

I turned on the wiper motor on (no arms attached), to watch the action - nice action and pure silence!

Yeah, I need a life....

Re: Windshield Wiper Linkage

On the 99-02 C/K's, this can be one of two things: either the nut that holds the wiper arm is loose, OR the splines on the (aluminum) wiper arm body became stripped when the wiper was frozen onto the windshield. First, try tightening the 10mm nut after removing the black plastic cap with a flat blade screwdriver or similar (cap snaps on and off). If that doesn't work, you may need to replace the wiper arm which is around $20. Remove the arm and examine the inside of the part that fits onto the wiper shaft. This applies to all Silverado/Tahoe/Suburban/Yukon/GMC trucks.
