this may be it for my dime :( (for a while anywayse)

well today, leaving the mall (x mas shopping for little bro and momma) i hit a patch of ice, and rolled through a stop sign, then after makin my right i pushed my luck and ran a yellow and thats when i seen the blue and red... i had cruse set at 75 when i seen his lights and pulled over, his fist words werent 'licence and registration please' like the other 3 times ive gotten a ticket, they were, 'we need to talk son', and asked me how many points i had, and i told him, i had 3 and he hit the roof, and asked for licence registration and proof of ins., comes back and told me that i may expect a letter for the secratery of state to review my licence because this is going to have me hit up to ten points, so i may be without a licence here shortly, at my own stupidity and fault, i may not get to get the dime out this spring, may have to wait till end of july

Re: this may be it for my dime :( (for a while anywayse)

after some math, the first ticket is going to cost 110 bucks (got one two weeks ago also), and then todays is going to cost 110 for the 10 over he gave me, 100 for the stop light, and 100 for the stop sign... i need to have the led removed from my right foot

in this case id pay the money and have a professional take care of BOTH tickets, trust me you will probably squeak by. itll cost ya a pretty penny but its a LOT easier on you and your insurance too.

DM, you messed up, but it was a mistake where no one got hurt.
And from the sounds of it to me the cop was in too bad of a mood to be working at the time, although I wasn't there so I don't know.

I don't think that you'll get off free of all charges, but with the cops attitude at the time the courts might give you a break on part of it.

We all deserve the odd trafic violation, but we don't deserve an assh*le cop to hand it to us.

Now you know why I only have slow vehicles on the road now.

I always got lucky with the cops (I was actually told to drive safely instead of being given a ticket once when I went through a red light) but I learned that I couldn't stop speeding on my own. With fast cars.

i think i saw something like that, had a supercharged honda 4banger in it and it was crazy fast. it looked comfortable if you were 6' at the tallest but yea the guy would hit the gas and his cheeks would instantly wrinkle back and start flappin for takeoff it looked wicked. anyway take it to a place that deals with tickets, you would be SUPRISED what would happen i bet. i had 2 tickets that i took to my parents lawyer (no we arent rich by any means) and he got em both cleared for 100$ i dont know if im lucky or what but yea. and both tickets i was caught red handed, 81 in a 65 (the only thing that saved me was the fact that i have a 2.2 and i was going uphill ) and the other was 60 in a 35. and i doubt they show up in court, they usually just submit the thing and unless its a major ticket, they wont even show up for court. youre one of a couple hundred cases that day.

Re: this may be it for my dime :( (for a while anywayse)

Guys they give you tickets for a reason...because you were being stupid and dangerous behind the wheel. Now take the tickets like a man and stop crying because you don't have the money to pay for them. And just to make things clear I was in your situation once. I got busted for an 87 in a 55, but I didn't take the panzy way out I paid the ticket and the increase in insurance and learned my lesson. Maybe the reason the cops are in a bad mood is because they are tired of picking up stupid kids all day who will fight them in court. Take responsibility for your actions and quit whinning!

There are better ways to deal with people.

If the cop is in a bad mood he should be a professional and either take the day off or hide it completely.

Having a cop BLOW up at a young person doesn't teach them to respect the police force, however it might teach them to fear or hate the police force.
Who knows, the young person might panic next time that there are red and blue lights flashing in the mirror, and take off running for something as simple as a burnt out tail light.
And we all know what police chases lead up to. People getting badly hurt or killed.

I wasn't saying that DM wasn't at fault, and he even said that he is. What I'm saying here is that the cop wasn't right either, and that things should have been done completely differently..

A fair cop would have taken the time to talk to DM, and assesed if he was just a smart assed punk or a good kid. (Sorry Doug, but your young to me)
If he figured that's what DM was a bloody punk then sure throw the book at him, but also let him know why you are.
At the same time if he figured that the young person is fair and learned his lesson take the time to explain that your giving him a break and keep it down to 6 points so they don't loose therir licence. (unless they mess up once more)

In all reality I think that everyone should have the oppertunity to go talk to the same officer a few days later and work out a compromise when they've both cooled off.
This would keep most traffic fines out of the courts.

Re: this may be it for my dime :( (for a while anywayse)

im 24. i had my tickets taken care of because me paying money out to a court and having to pay higher insurance is just stupid. now if i was doing something really stupid like street racing, road rage, hit and run then i would expect to pay for something but seriously im in a 2.2l s10. trust me i dont like getting tickets, it took me 8 years to get my first one and ive had 3 ever. if you want to pay pay pay go ahead, ill pay once and be done with it. id rather pay someone i know who deserves the money.

Re: this may be it for my dime :( (for a while anywayse)

I'm 36.

I don't believe that all places have points but I might be wrong.

They add on points to your licence when you get a traffic fine.
The last that I heard it's 3 for normal speeding and it goes up from there.

In most places they'll look into taking your licence away with 10 points, which is why I think that the cop should have considered giving DM 6 points (1 last chance) if he figured that DM made an honest mistake and learned his lesson.

Some places will fine you for every point after 3, and these fines get expensive fast.
They usually take 3 off your licence every year, but if you got 9 last year and zero this year they will charge you for 6 points this year. (so they repeatedly charge you for the same ticket year after year)

It really isn't the fines that mess people up it's the way that point system works. Your actually getting double and tripple billed on the same ticket for years.
