944 tuning potential

what is the maxamum power that the 944s engine, tranny, and diff can handle. Does anyone make a good turbo kit for the NA 944?

Talking Re: 944 tuning potential

I am the proud owner of a 1987 944, not an s but oh well. I asked the same question because of course i had the idea that my car would be a beast on the street. I was so wrong that it made my head spin. If there are two things I can tell you about 944's that I hope you already know is a simple to things 1. they are grossly underpowered which I am sure you are aware of and 2. they are extremely heavy for how much power they have. If you are looking for a fast as hell turboed 944 then sell the one you have and buy a 951. For the money it would take to make a 944s as fast as a 951 it just isnt worth it. But if you cannot afford that solution for a turbo and want to keep the car you have I have one recommendation. Keep it NA! This way you do not have turbo lag or have the reliabilty problems of a turboed car. What I did, because I wanted a turbo as well, was I took the advice of my mechanic. Accept it will be slower, not terribly slow just slower than a 951, and make it the most insane car in the twisties that you can. I have put alot of money into my cars suspension and not worried about how much power it has, because 944's in the race world are what we call momentum racers. They can be just as fast as other more powerful cars so long as their momentum is not lost through the turns. So my suggestion and little tidbit of knowledge from my car is this make it where itll outhandle a vet and you will love every second of driving it even though it is not a turbo. Hope this will help you with your car. Oh and P.S. since you have an "s" model the engine is more tunable then the regular N/A 944, so take advantage of that.

Hope this has helped in some way.

Re: 944 tuning potential

i agree. theres not much you can do to a N/A 944. If you want easy power, get a 951. That's what i did
