Blonde moment ? Or electrical from hell ?

I have a 1994 Pontiac Grand AM ..v6 .. It only has 88,000 kms on it ..so as you can imagine, I am trying desperately to keep this as a second car. It has been one thing after another lately ... and the latest seems to be something electrical. The original problem was no signal lights ... hazard lights ... and brakelights. now it seems the signal lights are working intermittently ..( when they feel like it) .. but still no hazard lights or Brake lights. I have checked all the fuses ..which was never a likely problem due to the signals working 1/2 the time.

It got dark tonight ... so I abandoned the hunt for the problem. Tomorrow I will check the ground wires on a chance something is eroded.
Any takers/ helpers for my dilemma ? Any advice would be appreciated.

thanks ... Leeanne

Re: Blonde moment ? Or electrical from hell ?

Leeanne, While your looking for bad grounds also look at the power wires as well, check for shorts or broken wires. You may have to trace the wires back to the trunk area and see if somewhere along the way the wires became exposed and startes to rub against something metal, IE: floor boards, trunk hinge, under the seat, You may also look under the dash and the steering column. It does sound like a wire is shorting somewhere, and once in a while the short is broken and the signals will work.

Hope this helps.

Electricals are a pain in the Butt, but I have always loved the challange of tracing one down. Just keep in mind...If you start getting roo frustrated, walk away for a bit and clear your thoughts, you will find the problem.

Have you been using a test light to see where or where not you are getting power, make sure it is a good test light, I have tried with cheap ones, found out the tester was bad and had to go back ober things again.

Good luck.

By the way... Welcome to the Forum
