antifreeze leak

bought my first american vehicle.2000 ford Explorer.6 cyl .I guess it's a heater control valve under the hood that hooks into h/c.Anyway the piece is black and plastic.fixed it now there is a leak that I can't locate the source of.(I do know it is not the water pump)The only place I see antifreeze is on the frame under the oil cooler.Any Ideas.I also only seem to smell it on the drivers side of the engine. And whats up with the wipers coming on by themselves?I have 25 years Volvo factory experience,I see Ford is adapting a little Volvo tech but,I haven't been into one far enough to see just how much.Appreciate any help.

Is the explorer a 4.0 overhead valve or overhead cam motor?, if overheadvavle besure to check the freeze plugs and the heads were the bloack and head meets, as for the wipers more than likely the wiper switch or harness that plugs into the switch, check to see if the pins are pulled out of the back of the connector.
