Timing belt or chain?
I have a 98 taco 2wd reg cab with 2.4L 2RZ FE engine. Just tried to start it and it sounds like its just blowing through the exhaust and turns over fast. Im thinking timing chain or belt broke. Does anyone know what it has? Belt or chain? Owners manual is useless. All I know is I see lots of dollars disappearing. Could it be somthing else?

I has a timing chain, it's unusual for them to break. How many miles on the truck? Any unusual noises when it turns over other than what you think is exhaust? I would run a compression check on the engine to get a better idea about what the problem is. I assume you have checked the oil level and condition, the cooling system isn't low and there is fuel in the tank.
