Astra Radio/display

Hi I have a '93 Astra merit van, i have removed a radio display/clock/temp display and wireing from an old '94 astra,

Problem is,

when the vauxhall CD Player is installed it wont display the station/frequancy. if i remove the front pannel the display shows pannel and bleeps, why wont the station display?

The CD player works fine when fitted into out vectra, the display works fine.
