2002 24 v Tranny Question
Hi all you Good Folks,
I have read on this list that the Tauras tranny in not the as reliable as it shood be. I have a 2002 SES with the 24 valve engine. Do I have the un-reliabile trans in this car as I have read about?? If so, should I keep my foot off the floor board now and then to keep stress off this Tranny? Thanks for any info you pro's can give me!! Rob Roy |

YES!! These trannys are soft!! I've got 37K on mine, and its beginning to slip. Drive with GREAT CARE, like a little old lady, if you want the car to last. The DOHC 24V motor is a good one for sure, and lots of power, fun to drive. Go easy on the 1-2 shift though, thats where problems first begin. Change tranny fluid and filter EVERY 30K miles. Good car, but not without its problems (what car isn't these days?) |

Re: 2002 24 v Tranny Question
if you have a DOHC engine then you have an AX4N which is known as the "good" transmission, in that it doesn't have the chronic piston warpage problem that the AX4S has.

Didn't AXOD-E and early AX4S had the problems but they got that all sorted out right? I thought the only difference on the later ones was just that it wouldn't skip gears?
But having a light foot will not only save your transmission but save you gas money too. |
