Unhappy Stalls/Rough Idle in Cold Weather

Hi everyone My 1996 Contour does not like cold weather! Now that the weather is below freezing most days, my car will not run right. It usually stalls when I press in the clutch, but sometimes it will rev up to about 5000 RPMS! In warmer weather it runs just fine. I put up with this all last winter, but now I'd really like to figure out what is going on. If anyone could help, that would be so great.
