1997 Jimmy with a transfer case problem.
Hello everyone,
A customer of mine has a 97 Jimmy that has a wife that decided to hit the 4x4 low button at 60 mph, the transfer case of course didnt like this speed. The transfer case was making a Hell of a noise when it came in, we replaced the case and now the noise is gone except a loud bang when you disengage the 4x4, the 4x4 doesnt disengage all that fast either. All fluids were checked and topped off. Anyone ever have a problem like this in the past? Thank you, Sellncars

Well I doubt that actually could have happened. The system is designed not to allow you to throw it into 4 lo at anything above 3-5 mph. On more than one occasion I've hit the 4lo button at 40-50 and it will simply blink and revert to the 2hi light. Now she could have gone in to 4hi at that speed and not much would be affected. Unless it's making a noise while driving I wouldn't worry about it too much. The fact that it clunks a little bit coming out of 4 hi to 2 hi is normal.
4lo will not/should not engage unless you are moving less than 3-5 miles per hour from 4 hi. If you engage it from 2 hi you will need to be in park or neutral for it to engage.
