Proformance potential of the Mustang?

I know that the 4.6 is a pretty solid engine for making plenty of power but how well does the stock driveline hold up to 10 second 1/4 mile power? I imagine that the 8.8 rear diff would have to be replaced with a 9 inch, how about the tranny and drive shaft. Any year modles that would be a good place to start for tuning?

Re: Proformance potential of the Mustang?

im pretty sure the 8.8 inch works just fine, but it might need a little beefing up.

Re: Proformance potential of the Mustang?

The 8.8 diff should be fine dealing with that power. You might look to swap to a TKO or Tremec 5 speed tranny.

how much would an aftermarket tranny cost, what would I have have to beef up on the 8.8 just the gears or do the shafts have to be replaced too? Are the stock 8.8s 31 splinal like my explorer sports

$2699+ for a T56 upgrade with everything from the tranny to a new drive shaft.

It's really up to you...I would just say the gears unless you are planning on running drag slicks, then you will break everything in between the engine and the wheels if it is a weak link.
