Hey guys I want to remove my valve cover from my 93 ex coupe. I was wondering when you guys removed your did you have to replace anything? My dad keeps on saying well if you remove your valve cover you should make sure you have the grommets and seals that you have to take off just incase anything tares/breaks. Let me know what happend with you guys... Mileage/year on the engine would be great too.

you can take it off no problem. nothing will break. just don't try to rip it off.

I'm pretty sure you should replace the valve cover gasket once it's removed.

i kind of want to know what you are taking the valve cover off for? it sounds to me like you dont really know what you are doing on a car too well if you dont know what is involved with removing a valve cover. but if you feel compelled, then you might as well make a trip out of it. make sure you know someone with a car when you do it though, in case anything happens. when you take it off there will be a gasket between the cover and the head. this should survive if it is not too old, but you never know. you should also check the o-rings for the spark plugs. other than that, make sure you dont get any dirt or anything in there. the parts will cost about $8 for all of the o-rings and the gasket for the valve cover if you tear something. good luck.

Don't worry my dad knows exactly what to do, since he did it with my brothers civic last summer. I know how to take it off but I Just never have and I wasn't sure about the gasket if I should buy one before I start the project or just wait and see.
Anyone else have to replace the gasket when you removed your valve cover for the first time?

are u going to paint it. if so then make sure you plug all the holes up. and simply just take the bolts off and take it off. its really not that hard.

You dont need to replace the gasket. You'll find older people say that cuz you had to every single time you took it off of the older V8 motors. Gaskets are better now, and you dont need to replace.
Just take off all the bolts and wiggle it |

Thats what I figured.... my dad use to own a brand new 67 or a year or 2 newer Built Mustang with the bes motor for that mustang at the time. He bought it stock soon as he got out of the service(Saved up his money while in the service) when he was in Texas, and the dealer told him if it doesn't do 140mph bring it back its not working right

all that i would say, is keep the valve cover bolts clean!!!! man i now a couple of people who have ruined thier heads, cuz they've taken the valve cover off droped the bolts never bother to clean them, then screwed them back in, lo and behold they ruined the threads on the head , its realy sad to see that happen too,

Thanks guys for both of your replies. Both have helped out. Won't be taking off the valve cover for a little while now, I gotta finish off my kick panels and stuff.

I'm thinking about doing the same thing. What's the best way I can keep dirt out? will a cloth leave fibers? etc?
