Engine pinging & dead KS causes ign retard. This definetely affects mpg and pwr... Test it -or- use bypass resistor to tst.

(Rusted handbrake wire keeps draggin, fuel leakage (...kids do need gas) etc ???)

Btw. Tank full -measurement method has 10% error margin.

Tester will show if KS or whatever is bad, ECU codes are not always reliable. (KS is top suspect b/c of code & symptom)

Clarification - for other sudden bad mpg possibilities.
- rear brakes will not release, but keep draggin (hb wire rusted, frozen)
- fuel leak, and/or some kids have a new need...
- injector leaks
- lots short&cold driving (=no problems)

I have multiple kids. They come when papa is away, siphon gas (they will invent a method) for their hobbies, rally, scooter, skiido etcetc... Symptoms: Sudden mpg drop. ...Kidney stones is another matter, dont mixup

Manual says: take injectors out with rail. Connect and see how they spray. (Surely intermittent fault is not seen). Injectors start to fail at 100k, may run lots longer. (Some say "dont buy reman", dunno, no experience)

Bad mileage b/c of brakes draggin:
Rear brakes jam b/c they mostly sit unused in salt shower. Caliper piston and or rails jam, handbrake (hb) wire jams.
- does car roll free? If suspect, jack rear up.
- do wheels rotate free? If not, bend hb wire with force. If it does feel 'loose' then its not a problem. If its very stiff, seek out the cause, possibly rust. Depends on car age/mileage/location.
- Take wheel off, check caliper if its stuck. While there, do some service...

haha thats what i thought you meant, about kids anyway.

i guess ill replace the knock sensor when i get the money. because the rear brakes seem fine, and i dont oknw if i want to mess with injectors.

if the KS doesnt solve the prob, we will look into that.
