95 5 speed transmission interchange question

I have noticed some of the JDM exchange cos. list the earlier transmissions as a correct swap while others only list 95 to 00 as acceptable. Has anyone swapped an earlier tranny into a 95 or later car? What are the changes that Suzuki/ GM made that cause some to list it as 95 or later only? Do the earlier transmissions have the same syncro problems as the 95? I will probably be getting one out af a local junk yard anyway, but any info would be appreciated!!

Re: 95 5 speed transmission interchange question

they all have the same bellhousing and dimensions but the newer trannys have different ratios than the earlier ones. think the 95-97 with 3 cyl and 13" tires use a 4.39 tranny. the 4 cyl can have as high as a 3.52 ratio, that is to much for a 3 cyl engine. not sure what the other ratios are but i believe if you check your door it has a tranny code you can call dealer with and find out ratio
