My 96 Contour manual transmission stalled yesterday while driving. When I turn the key, I hear a high pitched whirling sound, but the engine would not start.
Even stranger, when I tried to start it one time, I was giving it some gas, and my foot slipped off the clutch, and the car moved forwards a few inches, but did not actually start running. |

Re: 96contour will not start
Your starter is gone. The soloniod is not pushing the gear out of the starter to turn the flywheel.
If the car is in good shape and you want to keep it, buy a new one. Bosch makes good components as well as Champion. |

Re: 96contour will not start
I recently replaced the engine in a 96 contour. Will not start, does the computer need to be reset, and if so how do you reset it?

Do you have spark, fuel, Is it turning over slowly??? etc... You can reset the computer by taking the negative post off the battery for about 30 seconds. Try to be more specific about what is happening when you are trying to start the engine. |
