replacing fuel filter/pcv valve(?)

Decided to give my beloved civic hatch 1990 a service this weekend, can anyone tell me how to replace a fuel filter and pcv valve. Also is it worth the effort? anything else i can do to improve the engine besides oil, plugs, air filter?

Having a bit of a headache at the moment as the papers for the car say it is a 1.6, the engine is a 16valve 2 carb, however the vin code model 'EC9' decodes as a 1.4 litre. Has anyone had this sort of issue before?

GL is 1.4 if I'm not mistaken. If your carbed car is like pgmfi car the fuel filter is on the firewall held on by a clamp and two bolts. Release pressure from fuel line by opening gas cap/then close. Remove the clamp, unbolt the banjo bolt on the fuel filter, try not to spill fuel left in lines, replace washers and reinstall new fuel filter.
For PCV valve, not sure about carbed cars but on pgmfi it sits on a bracket on the intake manifold and just pops right out.

yeah replacing the pcv valve is kinda a waste of money. just pull the one out and take an air compresser and a screw driver and clean it out. there shouldn't be any crap in it though. the only real reason to need to replace the valve is if the spring is bad. but do what you got to do
