Question 88 Ranger will not start, but turning over!

Hello all. New to sight seeking help. I went to work and my truck sat for 30 hours(at work). My battery was dead when I tried to leave to go home. I jumped my battery with a jump/start charger from my work. When I got my battery charged, the truck turns over and doesnt start. I changed the coil, distributor cap and rotor button and still no spark.!! (I test this by inserting a screwdriver into the plug wire at the plug and holding it). No jolt at all. Does anyone have any knowledge of this or experience? Please help.............2.9 v6..........getting fuel!!

did you check that primary side of coil is getting voltage ? next time try putting a spark tester at end of wire. little safer to you and ignition system. how do you know fuel is good, smell fumes ? cranking with little resistance or loping like normal. more info would be better. is battery voltage good. too low may not have enough for spark or other things to functoin properly.

Checked primary side of coil, and battery with a voltmeter. Getting good voltage. Yes, smell fuel when turning over. If I turn it over alot, I smell alot of fuel. Engine starts out at a normal pace and gets faster the longer I try to start. Ignition still not getting spark though. Somebody said something about the ICM or pickup coil. could this be it?

I don't have the electrical diagrams for your vehicle, but those two components would be a good starting point to check. See if you can find a diagnosis procedure for your vehicle to give you a good starting point.
