Another tranny problem from a 93 lx

I am having the same problem most are talking about on this forum. Since every case is different I will post my problem. Whenever I go on the highway I can get up to 50mph without a problem. If I try to go faster than that then it revs up high and doesn't respond unless you are going downhill. I can get up to 70mph when this happens however the car slows down once you are level or going uphill. Do I need a new transmission? I just bought the car for 700 bucks. Friends say sell the car because its not worth it. I also have a broken spring in the driver's rear and rear defog button is broken. Of course the elecrical seatbelts are not functioning properly but again I only paid 700 for it. What do you think or suggest.

In my personal opinion, I would say sell the car, cuz I don't think its worth it. However, it depends on how tight your money situation is. I had a slightly similar problem with my 97, the shop mech. told me I needed a new trans, so I bought a used for $475 and he's gonna install it for $350, so all in all around $800 or so. If that sounds like the best route other than selling it (you won't get much for the car) then go for it. Let me know how it goes.

Yes I'm talking about a automatic trans. A buddy of mine at my job said he could get one for 200 dollars. I hope he's correct

Surely you've checked the fluid level but how old is the filter? Clogged up filter could cause this too.

Not really sure but if there is a cable going from the shifter to the tranny can it be out of adjustment? So the tranny is not quite in gear?

Also, either check the bands on the clutch, or have them checked, they may need to be tightened.

I think you on to something. I changed my air filter alone and it did wonders. I need to know where the trans filter is located and what do I need to change it myself. At jiffylube they're charging 100.00 to do a trans flush.
