1991 engine stalling - any ideas?

My 91 Legacy 2.2 non-turbo is stalling, but mostly as we are driving it is cutting out. I can keep it running by pressing on the gas pedal. I haven't been able to figure out if there is a pattern to this quirk, but driving on level ground it seems to run better. Some days it runs fine. Any ideas? Thanks, Todd

One thing is to see if the onboard computer know anything. Get over to the Legacy777 page:

http://www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/subaru.html

click on 'notes and tips', then on 'engine related'. See if the ECU has any input for you.
