2003 GC in need of valve and cam shaft replacement

On my way home to Illinois from Ft. Worth, TX., my Jeep GC began missing and I barely made it off the interstate to a garage. To make a long story short, it is now sitting in Norman, OK undergoing a valve and cam shaft replacement. This vehicle only has 36,000 miles on it, has had the oil changed religiously every 3000-3500 miles and has not been off-roaded or towed with. Has anyone else experienced this, or am I just the unlucky sucker that got the bad motor?

News to me, that's really low mileage for cam and valve failure in a well maintained engine. Be interested to know what motor you have, Overhead cam or push rod motor? Also did they say if all the valves were bad or are they just changing them to get more money from you. Why I ask is that on bike engines with a seperate carb for each cylinder one carb can run lean causing that cylinder to run hotter than the others and without the correct fuel charge passing by the intake valves to cool them they will overheat and become damaged. This heat will also be transferred through the rocker arm to the cam lobe damaging it as well. If your motor has multiport fuel injection and overhead cams maybe an injector ran lean and damaged your valve train on that particular cylinder. I can understand a cam and one cylinder's valves, but for all the valves to just go bad all of a sudden sound's fishy unless you had an oil pump failure, but in that case you would most likely be buying pistons and crank bearings as well. I'd ask to inspect all the replaced parts before paying. Also I have never bought a new vehicle but I thought the manufacturer's warranty was good for 3 years or 36K miles. Didn't Chrysler have a 70K powertrain warranty or was that just their Dodge line. Keep badgering them maybe you can get them to pay for at least part of your bill. Sorry about your luck.

Is it a dealership?This question caught my attention!I think you getting scammed by whoever is working on it!Make sure you have absolute proof. Sorry about your breakdown where you dont live dollar signs pop up to some that like to take advantage of people!Take care.
