bad vibrations

I have just bought my 90 celica stx from a auction. When I put the car in first it started to vibrate but would quit once I got going. This problem only in first. I asked someone about it and they said it could be the springs in my clutch plate worn out if the previous oner got on it alot. He also said that it could be drivin until the springs broke but the shaking will remain. SOMEONE PLEASE tell if this is right or not.

Re: bad vibrations

whats your idle rpm? is it still vibrating when you're holding the clutch or when you'r emoving on 1st gear? My car vibrates a lot after I bought it, and the first thing I did was reset my ECU. THAT helped a great deal. If its not, then maybe it is the clutch?

The idle is normal it only vibrates when im in 1st starting off then stops. it dosn't do this in any other gear. If the computer needs to be reset how do you do that?

Re: bad vibrations

I got a 6 gen celica. To reset my ecu, I started my car and let it warm up for 10 mins (rpm idle exactly 750), then turned the engine off. After that I took out the fuses with a plier in this order; Hazard, EFI, ECU ...and leave em out about 5 min just to make sure. After that I put them back in, and restarted the car, wait about 3-5 min. thats all. But, from what you're telling me, I dont think the problem is really your ECU. Most likely, your clutch is worn.
