Lightbulb free supra

my friend gave me his 1982 toyota supra for free. i am getting it towed to my house at the moment... he said it was running pretty well about a year ago when it started making a knocking noise. i wil begin the process of getting it looked at asap.
what engines can be used in this car if i had to swap the engine?
any feedback would be very helpful
