check vehicle light

I have a 2000 grand am. My check vehicle light comes on periodicly. like once a day usually in the afternoon when I got to leave work. the temp dosen't have anything to do with it as I park in a parking garage. I just think it is coincidence that the few times the light came on was after work.

first what is the difference between "check vehicle soon light" and "check engine soon light"?

one thing that may hold some value is that the first time it came on was just after i turned 80,000 miles. actually it was the first time I turned the vehicle on after turning 80,000 miles. is this light a factory set light that comes on at intervels?

thanks.

Re: check vehicle light

The Service engine Soon light indicates an engine related problem, and the Service Vehicle Soon light indicates a problem with a system of the vehicle (usually a module or a sensor). The SES and the SVS lights are not set to come on at set intervals. They indicate that the computer has detected a reading for a sensor or module that is out of spec from where it should be. So either there is a problem, or sometimes, the computer just thinks there is a problem. Either way, the light's should not be ignored. Go to either AutoZone or AdvanceAuto and have them read your codes. It's free, and will help you diagnose / solve the problem.
