A/C Compressor

I just bought a new A/C compressor and need to flush the system before changing it. Will any garage flush it properly ? Or are there places that would specialize in this. Is there a machine to do this ?

thanks,

John

Hey there, welcome to the forums

You can flush the system (without the new compressor on) very easily in your driveway. I have replaced 10 or so compressors last 2 years and have flushed several more systems. You need to have 3 cans of brakekleen (with the red cap, not the black cap), and air compressor with air chuck for just blowing air, a new orifice, a new dryer/filter.

1.remove orifice tube (located behind front left grill area)
2.remove filter/dryer
3.spray about 1/2 can of brakekleen into hose that goes into the firewall (low pressure side, the bigger hose). pick up on hose so product runs through. wait 2-3 minutes, add another shot of brakekleen.
4.place air chuck on hose where you sprayed in brakekleen and release compressed air into system.
5.***Be sure you have a rag on other end of evaporator because a bunch of black oil, brakekleen and metal shaving will likely be coming out.
6.repeat this process on condensor and all other hoses.
7. let system sit so evaporation can occur (warmer air takes lee time, cooler temps need more) 30 minutes or so. The brakekleen evaporates completely leaving no oil or residue.
8. blast a litttle more air thorugh and replace orifice (using new orings that come with it.
9. add 8 oz of PAG oil to filter/dryer. (or 4 oz in compressor, 4oz in dryer) either way works fine. I like to put all 8 in the dryer cause it is less messy
10. resinastall all hoses, compressor, fittings etc with new o-rings. tighten.

at this point you can take to a shop and have them pull a vaccum (to remove atmosphere) and recharge (any shop can do this usually)

or you can pull a vaccum yourself and suck in 3 cans of freeon. If you want to do this part yourself, let me know. I can help you make your own vaccum pump out of an ordinary refrigerator compressor!!!

Good luck!!
