2000 Trooper
HELP! My husband has a 2000 Trooper and it has the huge oil comsumption problem that many others have. The CEL started out blinking occassionally with acceleration which I've read is usually a misfire (or not). Our mechanic could never find anything since the light is NEVER on when we take it in. We had some kind of fusion cleaning done to it which hasn't helped at all. Now it is idling very rough when stopped and if you put it in park it sometimes stalls. This normally only happens after the car has really warmed up - not when it is cold and the CEL does NOT come on at all. If anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it. - Chris

sounds like the intake manifold gasket is broken. see the FAQ's for more info.

Thanks for the suggestion. The intake manifold gasket was indeed broken so they replaced that. Now the CEL is always on (not blinking). Before they replaced the gasket we had an oil change and tune-up. They did put Bosch spark plugs in (which I have been reading are not good in Isuzus.) After replacing the IM gasket they said the CEL was due to a Camshaft sensor. They replaced that and drove it - the CEL light did not come on until we picked it up and started driving home. I took it to AutoZone and they came up with the following codes: P1125 - Throttle Position Sensor, P1295 - Multi-faults with low side shorts (AutoZone didn't know what that meant), P1340 - AGAIN the Camshaft position sensor "B" circuit manlfuntion. All of this is accompanied by occassional rough idle/close to stalling when coming to stop signs and shutting off when putting it in park. It doesn't do this all of the time. Sometimes when you have accellerated hard it starts bucking. I am taking it back to our mechanic to take care of the Camshaft sensor (they said it could have been a bad part). Where should I start after that? Is it possible that all of these things have gone bad at the same time??

Chris, I have not heard of many problems (if any) with the cam position sensor on the 3.2/3.5L. IIRC, it's burried under the rt timing belt cover. The throttle position sensor has to do with the throttle by wire system all 2000+ have. You do hear of ocassional problems with the TBW system. There is a position sensor above the gas pedal, a position sensor on the throttle shaft, and a servo motor that actuates the throttle. Since these trucks are SO dependant on a steady clean electrical power spply, I'd first make sure you are getting a firm 14VDC across the battery terminals on an idling truck. Anything more or less causes ALL sorts of crazy sensor and operational issues.
