Once you have confirmed that you are not getting any power to the speakers, then next check all fuses that deal with the speakers. Refer to your owner's manual to see which ones there are as i dont have them off the top of my head. If your fuses look good, then you will need to start just follow your wires to check if there is a short or disconnection in them, and follow them all the way to the other end to make sure they are connected properly to the head unit. This should solve your problem.

most aftermarket installs will wire the tweets to the door speakers... and if i remember correctly from splicing/installing my deck, they share the SAME COLOR wires too so they might have been internally bridged on the stock amps. it's totally okay to wire them together. I dont really think you should notice any voltage differences from this unless you're running a big system (like 700+ watts) and even then it deffinitely wont be an INCREASE in voltage. my thoughts on the increase: during your install your doors were open, which kept the dome light on and slowly drained just a bit of battery life and after you started the car again it charged it back to 13-14volts anybody can feel free to add. i'm not a professionaly by any means and very well could be wrong.
