2000 Bonneville fuel pressure problems

I have a 200 Bonneville SLE and it quit running and I checked the fuel pressure and it has none.
Can anyone point me to where the fuel pump relay is.
I found the fuse box under the hood and see numerous relays and the list on the cover is hard to understand ( the abbreviations of the relays)
Can someone point me in some direction on pinpointing the cause of this problem?? ( maybe point me to the right relay )
Also can running the car out of fuel 3 times burn out a fuel pump
(wifes car)
Thanks for the help

Re: 2000 Bonneville fuel pressure problems

To answer your question the fuel pump relay is located in the power distribution center under the hood. If you look on the back of the cover it should indicate which one is the relay.

As for the question about running out of fuel burning up a fuel pump the answer is yes. The pump uses fuel for cooling and it will overheat if not kept cool. I would have to believe that your problem is indeed the fuel pump not the relay. But check the relay first because the overheating pump may have burnt it out.

Thanks for the info GTP Dad:

The listing on the fuse box cover is very hard to understand as they use abbreviations for the relays and none of them say fuel pump directly.
Would anyone know which it is and the abbreviation that Ponyiac uses for it.

Number 15 in the fuse box is a fuse and not a relay.
Would anyone know what the abbreviation on the fuse box cover would be for the relay for the fuel pump

Did you look in the fuse box or the power control center under the hood? The fuel pump relay should be located under that cover. If you look on the back of the cover it will tell you which is the fuel pump relay. The relay looks like a small square black box!

I looked at the power control center under the hood on the passenger side of the engine compartment.
None of the relays are label "" fuel pump "".
Would that be the right location to look?????

Unfortunately, I just learned I was leading you in the wrong direction. The fuel pump relay is located in the fuse box under the glove box area of the dash. The fuse is located there along with the relay. It may be marked with an H. Check your owners manual as it may or may not have a diagram.

Sorry for sending you on a wild goose chase.

Re: 2000 Bonneville fuel pressure problems

Replaced the fuel pump and it run great again.
It was a piece of cake, that access hole in the trunk to gain access to the fuel pump is great.
Now just 1 question:
How do you get the locking ring to seat all the way, I got it to seat a little over half way and can not get it to go anymore.
Is there a trick to this or does it require a special tool to get it to lock all the way??
