Lt1 HP?

Hi,
I have a 94 Caprice Wagon with the LT1 in it. I can't find any reference anywhere as to how many horsepower this thing has. Anybody have a clue? Thanks!

Re: Lt1 HP?

Did they bump up the hp in '95? I have a 1995 Buick Roadmaster with the LT1 and it's rated at 270hp.

The power output was not bumped; the Caprice with LT1 retained the same 260HP and 330 ft pounds of torque for every year in the Caprice (94 to 96).

The LT1 is like the L05 that preceded it; it has different horsepower ratings for the different vehicles it was used in. The LT1 in the Corvette was rated at 270HP. While the same basic motor, different vehicles had different modifications for that car. Check out the following link:

According to the article, the Caprice LT1 used a different cam than the Corvette (and I believe Camero also). This increased the max torque but lowered max HP, hense, the different HP rating for the same engine in a different vehicle.

Re: Lt1 HP?

Also the 'vette and f-body engines came with AL heads and I believe even had higher compression rations that those used in the b-body cars which came only with iron heads.

No it didn't, 94-5 all LT1 b-bodies were 260/330, for 96 they dropped the tow package cars with the mechanical fan to a 250hp rating though nothing really changed they just accounted for the parasitic fan.

Yes the Vette and f-body got aluminum heads but till 96 those aluminums flowed LESS than the iron heads and the compression bump is just to make up for the fact aluminum wastes more energy by allowing it to escape into the cooling system rather than be used to expand the gasses and drive the piston.

Just because the Vette and f-body got a few differnt parts DO NOT mistake them for better, each set of parts has advantages and disavantages and those are frequently not what most people think they are.

I realize it will take me some time to gain credibility over here but trust me when I say I know these cars, my 96 started life with a L99 and now is to the point of being a serious threat to LS1 cars at the dragstrip, and I have a 95 Roady Wagon. If you ever visit the ISSCA forum or NAISSO you will recognize my handle.
