Shifter/Trans question

This is a more "is this possible" type of question but I figured if anyone knew, it would be you guys . I recently had a problem with my 04 Civic. Basically what happened was I was at a red light, shifted into first and found myself stuck in first. The stick shift was freely moving in any direction and I was unable to get the car out of first gear. Since it's still under warranty (car has almost 39,000 miles) I brought it to the dealer who gave me the response that the bolt holding the shifter to the trans came out. On top of that, the bolt fell into the trans and they need to take apart the trans to find the bolt. My question is how reasonable is this and is that even possible?? I could be wrong, but something doesnt seem right about that.
Thanks in advance!
Steve

Re: Shifter/Trans question

If the car is still under warranty, don't question the fix. (I thought most warranties expire at 3 years or 36K whichever comes first.) If it isn't under warranty, get an estimate and then see if there is a recall by American Honda for this type of problem. Give us feedback on how you get this problem fixed.
