Re: Need Some advice

have the block magnafluxed and checked for cracks and imperfections, bore it .030 over, you'll be better off. other machining specifics are dependant on what you're trying to get out of it. what are you trying to build? are you trying to squeeze every last bit of HP out of it, or just a moderately powerful engine?

I agree, we need to hear your goals to recommend what should be done.

Re: Need Some advice

i'll break it down a little better...

magnaflux and hot tank the block,
bore cylinders .030 over,
recondition rods and crank,
have the rods drilled for ARP bolts,
align hone is probably not needed if you re-use the stock crank,
have new cam bearings and freeze plugs installed,
a set of keith black hypereutectic pistons,
i'd ditch those heads and get a set of vortec's,
a edelbrock performer vortec manifold,
cam and carb of your choice.

all that there should get you good performance at a pretty decent price.
