won't even begin to start

i went out to start my 2000 sonoma turned the key and got nothing but a click the dash lights come on but it wont even begin to turn over tried jumping it and changing the battery still nothing

Check for 12 volts on the purple wire at the starter with the key in the start position...if you have 12 volts there, sounds like you will need a starter.
