Shifting an Automatic

Anyone else do this with their cavalier? Mine has the 3 speed, and I can shift it even thou it's an automatic. I've been doing it for quite awhile and my friend has been only shifting ever since he bought it 7 months ago and has had NO problems. All you do is let off the gas when you shift. Even thou I don't have a tac, I shift to the speeds and sounds.

It makes my car sound A LOT better and makes it pick up speed at least 2 times faster than it normally would.

NOTE: I'm not responsible for any damages to your car that you do after reading this, lol.

Re: Shifting an Automatic

your an idiot. Shifting an automatic is so retarded. It doesnt make your car faster, more so your ricer fanatsy is just a little more fulfilled making you believe you are going faster. The computer shifts faster and at better RPMS than you ever will. And even further more, you dont need to take your foot off the gas pedal to shift an automatic. Just manuals. Stop being an idiot and bouncing your poor engine off the rev limiter and let it shift itself.

Re: Shifting an Automatic

Come on cut him a break. I have friends who for some reason actually bother with shifting their automatics. I usually just shrug it off. They're all just jealous that I actually KNOW how to drive manual. I'm kidding of course, though some do want me to teach them.

Re: Shifting an Automatic

Eh, I could careless. I bet you're all waiting for me to argue back...lol. Immatures. The only reason I don't get a manual is because they SUCK ASS in the winter and I live in the south side of chicago and we get hit badly with ice and snow. If I wanted a manual, I would of bought that porsche a kid tried to sell to me 2 years ago.

But yeah, ANYWAYS.....it gives me better traction and it DOES make the engine sound A LOT better then it does in overdrive.

Besides, I was only asking a question, I never said anything bad to you. So keep your mouth (and fingers) closed unless you have something mature to say about the topic.

Re: Shifting an Automatic

I disagree. There is snow on the ground right now and I'm managing very well. Infact when I shift or just push down on the clutch it helps me gain traction. Throwing it into neutral and then tapping the brakes has saved me more than once.

My god how many times are you going to call someone and idiot. Here is an ideal ask the mods to make a stickie intitled Jayson respond to everything and just post your an idiot in there. I swear that it like the only thing you ever say. For the love of god you make yourself sound like you are almighty god just because you have a supercharged cavalier. Big flippin deal. If he wants to shift his car and screw his tranny up let him. Your not paying for the car, and your not paying for the transmission replacement.

Re: Shifting an Automatic

lol i love how everyone always brings up my supercharger and thinks im acting arrogant because i have it. Ive never mention anything about my supercharger or my car.

Face the facts, this guys an idiot. Just another ricer. I hate ricers and i hate them more when the post moronic crap here.

It does not make the car sound any different. WTF do you think happens when the car is in drive and you accelerate? It acclerates in first gear, the same gear it would accelerate in if you manually shifted into 1st gear and punched the gas. So no it doesnt sound any different, its the same gear with the same engine. Only difference is your boucning off the rev limiter. Once again your a moron. Yuu have a 3 speed trans, there is no overdrive gear on the 3 speed. And on the transmissions that do have overdrive, its nothing more than 4th gear. So you dont disable overdrive by manualy shifting. IN ANY CAR EQUIPED WITH OVERDRIVE HARD ACCELERATION WILL AUTOMATICALLY DISABLE IT.

So please stop acting like a ricer, and please dont try an deny the fact that you are in fact a ricer.

wow every ricer mod there is, and the only performance mod would be an intake, which really isnt much of a performance mod at all.

Re: Shifting an Automatic

WOW i really hate posting in here because well i see the cavalier as a ricer in any way shape or form. NO offense to anyone but thats my opinion stick with it or shut the fuck up. When it snows up here its usually started off with about an inch of freezing rain and i have driven damn near anything in the snow. Geo metro stick, civic stick, corolla auto and stick, regal auto and my 4x4 blazer auto. One thing i will say first off is that it doesnt matter whether its a 5 speed auto FWD or RWD the weight on the axles is what matters. The regal is almost unstopable in the snow, mainly because it has a 3.8 that weighs like 700lbs. The corolla sucks ass no weight but the 5speed is better. What im getting at is that it doesnt matter unless the car has some weight on the axles. Another thing 4x4 is almost useless unless you have ABS.

As for the "shifting an auto" it will destory the tranny i dont car what anyone says your making the trans do something it supposed to do on its own, in doing so your making the trans pull out of gear to go into another gear with nothing to slow down the inertia created on the flywheel. Its like driving a stick without using the clutch. So yes il agree with jayson your an idiot. Hes also right that the trans will shft better and faster than you ever could mainly since it picks up the rpm and speed to tell it when to shift. Say it shifts at 28mph at 5k rpm from 1st to 2nd your foring the trans to shift either earlier or later than it should there for worst gas milage and worst performance. If you want to rice around acting like your driving a rental car have fun but when you brake trans or a synchro good luck getting it fixed.

Don't ever look at cars as just imports or domestics. Just because a car is made in a certain country doesn't mean that it is anything like another car from that country. An example of this is Mitsubishi reliability, just because they are Japanese doesn't mean that they are as reliable as a Honda or Toyota.
