Suggest some headers for me please...

I've got a '79 L82
No A.I.R. pump, no EFE valve, has AC
I want to dump the manifolds and put on some headers.

I don't know anything about headers other than I've head that you can get better horse power from using them. I do know that the wrong headers can cause problems if the ports don't line up. I know most are not street legal. I'd like to get some street legal ones if I can. Is this possible?

The exhaust head ports are 1 3/8" square (with the corners rounded).

Any suggestions?

Re: Suggest some headers for me please...

Edelbrock's new TiTec (titanium finish over stainless tubing) headers don't chip, peel or rust and are smog legal in all 50 states for maybe $350.

First problem is headers leak, making rude noises. It takes special locking fasteners at the head and double-nutting or safety-wiring at the collectors to keep 'em tight. Save yourself some trouble, pay a pro (like a race shop) with plenty of experience to do this.

Second consideration is headers will not give you much more performance or mileage when run through a catalytic converter and muffler(s).

But they look and sound cool, so maybe you feel like you're going faster!
