mach audio system?

I have a 99 taurus sedan and my fiance wants to replace the audio system. I need to know if it has a mach audio system or not...I read somewhere that if you have a pillar tweeters then it is the mach audio system...does anyone know if this is true? When my mom bought the car she didnt put many options into it...thats why Im doubting we have it ...unless it came standard...Im very confused when it comes to cars and Im trying to buy the new system for my fiance for christmas and I dont want to get something that doesnt fit. Thanks for any help...its much appreciated!

Re: mach audio system?

As far as I'm aware, if you have the tweeters on the door pillars and they have the "Mach" logo on the grill, you have the Mach system. If the tweeters are not there and you don't see the word "Mach" on any of the original speaker grills, you do not have the Mach system.

Re: mach audio system?

pretty sure it will say MACH on the pillars if you have Mach...
the Mach is a great system i have it in my 2000.

In the end if your fiance is convinced they need a new audio system your pretty much just going to have to accept it ... just make sure there is a near term reciprocation benefit that you can remind and draw upon everytime you are in the car together ( new CD collection of your choosing perhaps?)

on that thought........since this is a Taurus it doesnt have too much extra in the way of sound isolation...... so while you are at it add sound prooofing in the engine compartment, extra cab isolation, sound deadening in the doors, door and headliner speakers ( see Mercury Sable for these added 200+ lbs of ride/sound benefits)

and what the hell install a Bose sound elimination system. Sorry i could resist...

Re: mach audio system?

I have a '99 with the Mach audio. It has the tweeters on the doors (called sail panels) with the 'Mach' logo. It comes with a 6 disc changer and an amp in the trunk (not sure what the power output is). For a stock system it's pretty good.

My car [1998 Se] came pre wired for a cd changer. I just had to look behind the panel in the trunk, near the antenna. It was setup at the factory. All I did was remove the tape that bundled it out of the war and cue a small silt to push the harness end into the trunk and pulg it it.

I bought the cd changer off of ebay where many were offered, some from individuals and some from salvage yards.

Re: mach audio system?

Knowing how cheaply Fords are made, I can't imagine a CD harness being in the car. Anyway, I've never seen one. Any chance it had a changer that someone took out with out removing the harness.

Sorry to disillusion you jimbo, but they DO come with a harness for the changer. It's in the trunk just plug and pray.
