94 prizm a/t question=

just bought 94 prizm.165000 miles. automatic transmission. assuming the previous owner never changed the a/t fluid or filter. do you think now is the time? someone once told me if you go over 100,000 miles without doing it you better just keep on going. something scientific about gum deposits ,etc.

Re: 94 prizm a/t question=

I have the same car & 147k. The Haynes repair manual inspection schedule indicates changing trans oil and filter every 30k. There’s nothing scientific about not performing recommended (required) maintenance. Change it!!!

I am in the middle of a timing belt change right now, but I have my AT oil and filter on the side to install shortly after I get the front of my engine reassembled today. Good luck!!
