Purchasing a Jetta

I am looking to purchase a 99-03 Jetta, and was wondering how reliable these cars are? Are the parts and maintenence cost reasonable compared to other cars. I am looking for a vr6 w/5spd or a 2.0w/5spd.
Any advice is appreciated

Thanks

Re: Purchasing a Jetta

I have an MK4 2.0 right now and it's a good car if you're looking to save on gas. If you're looking for something that's going to have some kick to it then don't get the 2.0. The VR6 is a great engine, punchy as hell, but your insurance will be higher on that as well. Hope that helps you out a little
